STREATOR – A longtime coming sewer project will begin this fall in Streator. At a special city council meeting Tuesday, a bid from Opperman Construction in Pontiac was awarded for the Center Street sewer project. A new sanitary and storm sewer main along Center Street from 12th Street to Coal Run Creek and the installation of storm sewers along 9th through 11th streets to separate the storm and sanitary sewers and eliminate one of the city’s combined sewer overflows is planned. City Engineer Jeremy Palm says the bid will go through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for approval, as they are funding the 1.6 million dollar project.
