Illinois American Water acquires Ransom water system

RANSOM — Residents in Ransom will soon get their water supply from Illinois American Water’s Streator district. IAW officials announced yesterday that the company officially acquired the water system in Ransom, which the Ransom board voted in favor to sell back in September for $175,000. Throughout the year, Illinois American Water will be installing 10 miles of water main to connect with it’s Streator district to bring drinking water to the village, where very high levels of radium have been reported. Residents of Ransom can still pick up bottled water at Village Hall until the project is complete. Officials expect to be finished with the project by the end of this year.
