UNDATED — Unemployment remains high in the local area this year compared to last year. Recent figures released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security show La Salle County unemployment in March was up over one percent from last year, where it sits at 8.3 percent, compated to 7.1 last year. Bureau County went up to 7.5 percent from 6.7 percent last year, and Putnam County went up half-a-point to 7.4 percent from 6.9 percent. Livingston County went up to 6.4 percent from 5.3 percent last year. The largest job gains were in the Government sector, while the worst losses were in leisure and hospitality.
