STREATOR — The initiative in Streator to install a smoke detector in every home throughout the city continues to be a huge success. Streator Fire officials say their “Save-a-Life Day #2” on Saturday had another great turnout of volunteers and welcoming homes to install the free smoke detectors. Officials say 219 alarms were installed throughout some southside homes with the help of 33 volunteers, which has helped 94 more homes become more safe. A total of 443 smoke alarms have now been installed. Officials say the next date has yet to be determined with the winter months ahead.
