MENDOTA — A major road and railroad crossing will be closing on Sunday in Mendota. Illinois Department of Transportation officials say the crossing on US Route 34 in downtown Mendota will be closed for a week as BNSF railroad workers install heavier rail on the crossing. Officials say BNSF is currently in the process of installing the heavier rail through Mendota. Officials say the crossing on Fifth Street will also be closed. Detours will be posted for motorists to use Eighth Street during the closing.
