STREATOR – The city of Streator plans to obtain search warrants to enforce their new rental property inspection program. At Tuesday’s city of a whole meeting, City Engineer Jeremy Palm gave an update on the program after two rounds of inspection notices were completed. The notices passed out requested registering the property as a rental and schedule the required inspection. Palm says 229 initial round one notices were passed out to properties that had code violations within the past 3 years. 77 out of the group did not respond to the notice, prompting an administrative search warrant. That process will begin with the first 22 rentals that have had code violations within the year.
