The 2016 Lee Co. 4-H Fair & Jr. Show is July 28-31 at the Lee Co. 4-H Center & Fairgrounds on Route 30 just north of Amboy. The four day event features events for everyone including a full grandstand line-up of tractor/truck pulls and new this year the T & C Rodeo.
The fair opens Thursday, July 28 at noon. Gate admission is $5.00 Thursday – Saturday and $2.00 on Sunday. Children age 12 and under are free.
New this year is the Great American Carnival offereing $20.00 wristbands for unlimited rides daily. Also new in the grandstand, Saturday, July 30 is T & C Rodeo. Local participants can register the day of the event for basic speed events and youth can participate in mutton bustin’ competition.
Returning is the 4-H Fair Marketplace featuring local crafters, artisans, farmer’s market vendors, and home-based business products. Vendor space is still available and is free. The Marketplace opens 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 31 and closes at 3 p.m. For more information or to reserve a space call (815) 857-2603.
In addition to daily judging and livestock shows, free kids activities are offered Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Kids Korner at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Bingo, hosted by the Dixon Nursing & Rehab Center, begins at 3:30 on Thursday. Saturday marvel at Magic by Cory at 5 p.m. Sunday, the corn boil, corn husking contest and big wheel races wrap up the fair.
The Lee County Fair Association is also accepting entries for the 2016 Jr. Show. The jr. show is open to youth ages 8 to 19. Project departments include all livestock and small animals, as well as visual arts, mechanical sciences and crops.
