OTTAWA – Illegal firearms were confiscated and four were arrested on gun charges in the latest of a series of sweeps announced Wednesday in Ottawa. The LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office, TRI-DENT, Streator Police and Ottawa Police executed search warrants on a location in the 400 block of Catherine Street in Ottawa and 200 block of East Grove Street in Streator. During the raid, the police took possession of a number of allegedly stolen firearms, including pistols, rifles, and a reported illegal sawed-off shotgun that LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton said was located sitting on a couch near the front door at one of the residences. All of the suspects arrested were felons according to LaSalle County State’s Attorney Karen Donnelly, and were not legally allowed to possess weapons.
Those charged were 20-year-old Alexander G. Adams of Ottawa, 21-year-old Nicholas B. Persinger of Streator, 21-year-old Nicholas J. Reynolds of Ottawa, and 25-year-old Terry R. Campbell Jr of Streator. All were charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, with additional charges possibly pending.
Reynolds and Adams are also facing additional charges of unlawful sale of a firearm.
During a press conference attended by Ottawa Police Chief Brent Roalson and Streator Chief Kurt Pastirik, LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton spoke about how they were targeting illegal gun owners, not lawful citizens who respect the right to carry a weapon. All four suspects were being held in the LaSalle County Jail with bond yet to be set.
