STREATOR – The city of Streator approved their 2020 budget and tax levy increase. As part of efforts to zero down an over $200,000 deficit while increasing police and fire pension contributions, the city will implement a %4.81 tax levy increase. The budget will also include staff reductions via an up-and-coming early retirement incentive program. City manager David Plyman says the city does not have the resources with out a property tax increase. In addition, he says funding sources to the general fund are not adequate to cover the gap. The proposed general fund budget is $9.8 million and revenue at $9.6 million.
