STREATOR – Streator’s City Council is slated to approve a sales tax for the Northpoint Plaza District on Tuesday. At last month’s city council meeting, members agreed to table the 4 year proposal that would require parcel tenants to charge an additional 1 percent sales tax until a letter of consent was signed from businesses within. A recent letter by Northpoint Development Holdings, signed by Big R CEO, details stipulations and benefits of the improvement district to Northpoint shopping center tenants. The tax is designed to encompass the Northpoint Shopping Center, the new Hilton Tru Hotel and Eagle Cinemas properties. Streator’s city council will act on the matter at their special meeting on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
