
WYANET – A man died after being struck by an Amtrak train in Wyanet on Thanksgiving Day. . According to Bureau County Sheriffs, 25-year-old Andrew Frese of Buda was operating a tractor was heading southbound when he was struck by a westbound Amtrak passenger train. According to initial reports, Frese was crossing from one field to another at a BNSF Crossing in Wyanet when the John Deere was struck by the Carl Sandburg 381 Amtrak train. According to authorities, the tractor and train suffered extensive damage, leaving Frese dead at the scene.
An Amtrak train engineer and a train passenger were transported to a Princeton Hospital. Five other passengers were transported to a Hospital in Kewannee. The accident remains under investigation.
