STREATOR  – Illinois American Water is investing approximately $790,000 to upgrade the Streator District water systems including work in Ransom, Dana and Streator. The projects will help ensure quality, reliable water service for today and future generations. In both Ransom and Dana, work includes the installation of new chemical feed equipment for enhanced water treatment. According to Jon Mase, operations superintendent for the Streator District, the new equipment will ensure stable disinfection and decrease the need for flushing throughout the distribution systems. Customers should not experience an interruption to water service during construction. The work is expected to be completed in September. In Streator, a water main replacement project is nearing completion on East Main Street. About 2,250 feet of 6-inch and 8-inch water main was installed along East Main Street from Fuller Street heading east out of town and on Calvary Lane. Illinois American Water’s water main replacement program focuses on replacing mains where leaks occur, corrosion has caused damage or the size of the pipe isn’t sufficient. Water main replacements also help to decrease the occurrence of water main breaks and related traffic and service impact
Mase said, “Continuous investment in our local water infrastructure is critical for ensuring customers receive quality, reliable
drinking water service. This work to replace and upgrade water mains will help ensure adequate water pressure and flow to
homes, businesses and for fire protection.
