City demolishes wrong home, then sues owner

demo-2

A man in Atlanta came home to a pile of rubble.  His home, on Lawton Street was not the home that was to be demolished.  The paperwork read Lawton Avenue, which is 1.4 miles away and in a different zip code.  He received paperwork in the mail from the city of Atlanta and thought that hopefully it would be an apology letter or even a check.  To his surprise, it was a lawsuit for $68,000 wanting him to repay the city for the demolition.  The letter went on to threaten foreclosure on the empty lot if he did not pay the fee.  He has filed a lawsuit against the city for the wrongful demolition of his home, however it is still stuck in the court system.
