LA SALLE – Over the weekend, Stage 212 opened its doors for a sensory reduced rehearsal of “The Wizard of Oz”. There were approximately 120 people with disabilities along with their families invited to enjoy a performance of the musical with the lights on, the sound lowered, and minus scary special effects. Prior to the performance, some of the actors came out to speak to the audience and let them know that they are not that scary in real life.
Director Jessica Kreiser talked about how this opportunity impacted families who attended.
“Many parents were excited that their children had the opportunity to experience something that they never have before” said Kreiser, “They were overjoyed for the inclusion.”
One of the highlights for the children who visited the show was the chance to meet with Watson, playing Toto and pet him after the performance. Watson is in training to become a therapy dog.
“The Wizard of Oz” will open to the public on Thursday. Tickets can be purchased at Stage212.org
