Growing up as a kid in the 90’s, you may have led to believe a variety of things based on the prevalent culture and media of that time. Some common beliefs and perceptions during the era included:
- Stop drop and roll, that you would be on fire a lot more often than you actually have been.
- Cutting plastic holders around beverages, that there were thousands of animals dying unless you cut those apart.
- We would be enticed into a van with candy a lot more often.
- If you turned the light on in the car, you would get your parents arrested.
- The future would have flying cars, advanced technology, and robots performing our every day tasks.
- Disney movies taught us that true love conquers all, animals would come and clean your home if you sing, and happily-ever-afters were within reach.
- Superhero cartoons and action figures made you believe that anyone could become a hero with the right powers or gadgets.
- Boy bands and pop stars were portrayed as perfect and glamorous, leading some to believe that achieving fame and success was relatively easy.
- The concept of “coolness” was often associated with specific fashion trends, toys, and brands, which made kids strive to fit in and be part of the popular culture.
- That there would be more people passing out illegal drugs for free.
