STREATOR – Seasonal changes in the Vermillion River are impacting Streator resident’s drinking water. Due to the dog days of summer’s high temperatures, Streator’s source water is tasting and smelling different. The city’s utility rest assured water was safe to drink, however some residents are claiming their pets are sick from drinking the water. Spokeswoman for Illinois American Water, Karen Cotton says their team has implemented activated carbon into the treatment process to address issues. According to Cotton, water continues to meet all EPA requirements. She says refrigerating water prior to consumption or using ice may help improve the taste until it is completely mitigated.
