Streator board members salute student welding project for fire department

STREATOR – Streator High School’s welding class got a nod from board members for a project dedicated to the fire department at their meeting on Tuesday. As one of Welding 3’s final projects, students created a steel hose drying rack based of specifications from the Streator Fire Department.  Board member and fireman Mike Mast says the students go unsung a lot of times, but the projects that they’re doing are not only quality work, they’re beneficial. The seven foot tall, mobile steel rack can hold 10 sections of hose, an amount that’s typically used for a common structure fire. Mast says with the natural mechanism, firefighters don’t have to run their gear drying oven so often, saving the department money and energy. This is the second year in a row the welding class has done a project for the fire department.
