STREATOR – Streator’s city council is considering implementing an amusement tax. The proposal comes from Eagle 6 movie theaters, whose owner, seeks extra revenue to finance an expansion. Attorney Micheal T. Jurusik says the community could adopt the tax directed solely towards the movie theater and not have it apply universally. Jurusik says if the tax is going to be implemented, he recommends a minimum of one to two thirds retained by the city for governmental purposes. Mayor Lansford says he would like the city to keep some money from the tax. City Manager David Plyman says the theater would benefit more from the tax, versus raising ticket prices. It would eliminate the theaters obligation to share the revenue with studios. The proposal could be discussed again in the near future.
