Few calls for frozen pipes during polar vortex in Streator

By: Joe Jungmann

STREATOR – No up-ticks in water breaks have been reported during the polar vortex in Streator.  According to Communications Director, Karen Cotton, customers regarded advice to prevent pipe bursts, keeping employees from inspections. Cotton says that during the polar vortex, the utility company responded to emergency orders only. The utility reported few calls for frozen pipes and say the majority of customers heeded advice to prevent water damage, keeping the local team from inspections in the frigid winter conditions. Cotton credits decreased main breaks to Illinois American’s annual investments to water main replacements in areas where they’ve seen leaks or aging, unfavorable to current demand.
