Student at IVCC shows signs of meningitis

OGLESBY — IVCC officials are keeping a close eye on one student who showed signs of viral meningitis. Associate Vice President of Student Services Mark Grzybowski sent out an e-mail Tuesday morning informing students and staff about the student. School officials say that the viral sickness is currently only with the one student and have not reported other signs of the sickness. IVCC President Dr. Jerry Corcoran says school officials are working closely with the La Salle County Health Department and “there is no need for alarm.”
Some common symptoms of viral meningitis include fever, headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to bright light, sleepiness or trouble waking up from sleep, nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, and lethargy. Most people with viral meningitis usually get better on their own within 7 to 10 days.
