PERU — A piece of the World Trade Center on it’s way to Colorado traveled through La Salle County earlier this morning. The five-foot long, 3,000 pound beam is on a journey from New York City to Fort Collins, Colorado, where it will stay outside of the Poudre Fire Department. Local fire departments in the area had fire engines on bridges over I-80 this morning, flying an American flag and saluting the beam as it passed by. The beam is being escorted by over 100 different emergency service agencies down Interstate 80 and has been honored by every town so far it has passed through.
