UTICA – While it may not be the best weekend to hit the trails, Starved Rock and Matthiessen Park Superintendent Kerry Novak says the majority are drying up from recent flooding. The Illinois and Ottawa canyon’s along with their respective parking lots are open, however the main parking lot of Starved Rock remains closed. Novak says he doesn’t expect the main lot to be open until the middle of next week. The overflow parking lot is also open. The lower dells of Matthiessen State Park are closed along with the equestrian and multi-use trails. Showers and thunderstorms are expected for this weekend according to the National Weather Service. Please use caution if you plan to venture out!
