Streator residents speak out on potholes

Potholes on Geneske Court

STREATOR – Pothole concerns were expressed during public comment at Streator’s city council meeting, Wednesday. Residents of Geneske Court raised concern over potholes that span four to six inches deep, two feet wide for a 30 foot stretch. Residents says when heavy rain comes, it floods the block and patch work doesn’t last for long. The potholes have caused vehicle damage as well, however the primary concern was over a wheel chair bound resident that takes the bus to school, making it difficult to travel especially with no side walks. City Engineer Jeremy Palm says reason being for the flooding is due to the lack of storm sewers nearby. He says the closest storm sewer is nearly 1000 feet away from Geneske  Court. Short term solutions were made at the meeting to patch the potholes and with more road work planned this year, Palm says he may be able to put down hot asphalt.
