Mendota High School adjusts to in-person pandemic learning

MENDOTA – Mendota High School Superintendent Jeff Prusator and Principal Denise Aughenbaugh discussed Sunday some of the steps the students and staff have taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19.   The changes when you enter the school are clear, from the lines on the floor and staff taking your temperature, to not so noticeable adjustments, like longer times between classes.   Students are still taking their desks to be taught, but in slightly different environments and configuration, with many areas like the gymnasium and cafeteria being filled with seating.   A split class schedule means courses are taught every other day, but twice as long.  Jim Lauer, a member of the school board, noted that although the time in each class is around 85 minutes, teachers are encouraged to take the students outdoors where they can distance and have a few minutes mask free.   Prusator hopes the community understands that students are going to be safe attending the high school this year.
