Man Dies in Bureau County Grain Bin

LAMOILLE – A man is dead after reportedly being trapped in a grain bin near LaMoille. According to LaMoille Fire Chief Brent Becker they were called to a farm on 2600 North Road east of town around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday for a possible bin entrapment. Multiple area departments responded, including Arlington, Cherry and Malden Fire Departments plus LaMoille and Mendota Ambulance. It was not known how long the person had been inside the bin before a call was made that someone could possibly be trapped. The ground level bin was cut open and the corn was removed during the search. The man, identified by Bureau County Sheriff James Reed as 73-year-old Roger L. Cogdal was located and pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were reported to the first responders, who remained until around midnight. The incident is under investigation by the Bureau County Coroner’s Office and Bureau County Sheriff’s Office.
