La Salle County gets updates on groundwater, study proposal

OTTAWA — Water levels throughout La Salle County are dropping, but federal officials say there is no need for panic. Jon Hortness and Robert Kay from the U.S. Geological Survey spoke with the La Salle County Board during their meeting yesterday, explaining the ground water levels. Kay explained that the water drops have been most affecting residents and businesses that are close to the sand mines. Kay also mentioned that the levels may be dropping, but it also gives more space for water to return to the wells and aquifers. The USGS is planning on doing a water survey for the county and will try to pinpoint areas of where water levels are lower than others, and explain what may be causing the water levels to drop.
