QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — Jury deliberations are under way in the first-degree murder trial of a former Quincy prosecutor and University of Illinois football captain accused of killing his wife on Valentine’s Day in 2006.
Ex-Adams County assistant state’s attorney and all-Big Ten football player Curtis Lovelace has pleaded not guilty in Cory Lovelace’s death.
A jury of 10 women and two men began deliberations Thursday afternoon on the ninth day of a trial that has transfixed the Mississippi River city of Quincy.
Curtis Lovelace did not testify in his own defense. Prosecutors allege that he suffocated his first wife with a pillow.
Cory Lovelace’s cause of death was initially ruled inconclusive until a Quincy detective took a fresh look at the case. That led to Lovelace’s 2014 arrest.
