Good samaritan Fed Ex driver survives plunge off bridge

SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) — He stopped to do a good deed for a fellow motorist — and almost lost his life in the process. Authorities in North Carolina say a FedEx truck driver stopped to help a motorist stranded in the left lane on I-85. But when 24-year-old Jeremiah Cribb saw a tractor-trailer barreling toward him, he jumped out of the way. He thought he was jumping onto a grass median, but ended up plunging off the Yadkin River Bridge, landing on a sandbar 75 feet below. Cribb was rescued by a firefighter who used a harness to pull him to safety. Cribb has three broken ribs and a collapsed lung. A fire chief describes the whole thing as “entirely miraculous.”
