LA SALLE COUNTY — Four people were critically injured in a four-vehicle accident northeast of Ottawa on Wednesday afternoon. La Salle County Sheriff’s office says 22-year old Everardo Ruiz was travelling at a high rate of speed on Illinois Route 71 around 1:30 PM Wednesday, when he struck the back of a car, then lost control of his vehicle and struck two more vehicles. Authorities say Ruiz and three of the passengers in his car were taken to Saint Francis in Peoria with life-threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
