50 years since Oglesby teen vanished

Oglesby – Studstill Media Photo

OGLESBY – A teen walked out of his Oglesby home fifty years ago and vanished. In the five decades since 16-year-old Dermot F. Kelly went missing authorities have had no clues to his whereabouts, aside from his jacket, boots, and the rifle he left home with. On the afternoon of January 30th, 1972, Kelly took a .22 caliber rifle and said he was going to the woods along the Vermilion River for target practice. The next day his jacket and boots were located along the river, and bare foot prints in the snow led into the water where later his gun was found by divers. The St. Bede Junior was never heard from again, and was declared legally dead in 1992. Anyone with any tips or information should contact the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office.
